Where direct current flows, direct magnetic fields can also arise. Trams, subways and trolleybuses can cause direct magnetic fields, sometimes having effects up to 40 meters away. In addition, constant magnetic fields can arise from reinforced steel supports and magnetized metal parts, e.g. the steel coils in the spring mattress or heaters. The bed in particular should be free of magnetic distortions. Permanent magnets also emit constant magnetic fields. Artificial magnetic fields can distort and overlay natural magnetic fields. The largest natural magnetic constant field is probably the Earth's magnetic field; this field protects us from solar storms and cosmic radiation.
During their journey to the south and back, migratory birds orientate themselves on the earth's natural magnetic fields and strong deviations cause disorientation in the animals. This was already discovered at the beginning of the last century by Lakowski in connection with pigeons and radar systems. Military carrier pigeons, still in service at the time, that were released near radar systems flew around completely confused because they could not connect to the earth's natural magnetic field. Only when the radar field was switched off did the pigeons find their way back to their loft. For example, when it was discovered during space travel that the astronauts were becoming ill, an artificial magnetic field including Schuhmann resonance was created, and the astronauts then felt well again.
The field strength is measured in amperes per meter (Am), the flux density in Tesla (T). The unit of measurement used in building biology is microtesla (uT). You can also measure the strength of constant fields with a compass; here the deviations are given in degrees. The strength of the magnetic field in European areas is 45-50 microtesla, Frankfurt am Main 48 microtesla, Berlin 49 microtesla, Karlsruhe 47 microtesla.
What can you do yourself?
Have your innerspring mattress checked or replace it with a natural latex, coconut, horsehair or cotton mattress. Avoid any kind of steel parts on the bed. Avoid music boxes directly next to the bed and metal objects under the bed. Don't necessarily place your bed over a steel beam in the floor. Keep your distance from radiators. Avoid excessive phone calls with headsets. Don't listen to music on headphones for too long. Women should be careful not to have metal underwires on bras as these can also be magnetized. Avoid all magnetic field pendants, chains, rings, shoe insoles, etc.
What we can do for you?
We can check your bedroom, your apartment and your office with the necessary measuring devices for noticeable anomalies in the area of constant magnetic fields and thus make you aware of the fields. It's often enough to keep your distance from certain things if you know them. Since constant magnetic fields can also come from neighbors, a building biology study makes sense. 24-hour measurements can be useful and necessary near trams, subways or trolleybuses.
Health effects
Sleep disorders, headaches, body tension and back pain can occur at the sleeping place. Office chairs could be linked to uterine and ovarian diseases, prostate problems and bladder problems. Permanent magnets in headphones, headsets and phones can cause headaches, and I also read about a possible cause of brain tumors. Of course, the alternating magnetic field comes into play with headphones and the high-frequency radiation with Dect telephones, so in some cases the exposure can be threefold. Headphones with piezzo technology have no magnetic constant fields
